John D. Adams

Background

With over 45 years of accounting experience, John has extensive knowledge of various areas of private enterprise, including residential and commercial construction, professional offices, retail operations, distributorships and farming. He opened his own accounting firm in 1975, and has clients who have stayed loyal to him for more than 40 years.

Education

In 1964, John received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was granted his CPA license in 1966. On November 27, 1991, he received the AICPA Certificate of Educational Achievement in Personal Financial Planning. In order to stay current and to further his knowledge, John consistently exceeds the yearly requirement of continuing education credits for his CPA license.

Organizations

John is a member of several professional, civic, and community organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Garner Chamber of Commerce and the Garner Rotary Club. He has held numerous leadership positions within many of these organizations during his years of service, and also served as a Town of Garner Alderman from 1991-1995. He is a member of Garner Advent Christian Church, where he has served as deacon and treasurer for many years.

Awards

John has received numerous awards throughout the years for his service in the Town of Garner, including the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and the James R. Stevens Service to Garner Award. He was the 2011 recipient of the Garner Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award.

Personal

John has five children — who all work with him at John D. Adams & Company, CPAs, PLLC. Four of his children have also earned their CPA licenses.

Jonathan D. Adams

Background

Jonathan began his career in 1989 working full time with John D. Adams, CPA. He became a member of John D. Adams & Company, CPAs, PLLC in 1996. Jonathan has over 22 years of accounting experience specializing in closely held businesses. Working with entrepreneurs to help them achieve success in their business is his focus. He assists clients with software selection, tax planning and other business related consulting within a variety of industries.

Education

Jonathan is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Organizations

Jonathan served as Chairman of the Garner Chamber of Commerce from 2000 to 2001, and is still a member. He was President of the Garner Rotary Club from 2002 to 2003, and remains on the board of directors. Jonathan is also a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He is on the Board of the Garner YMCA and is a member of the Garner Advisory Board of North State Bank. Additionally, Jonathan is licensed as a general contractor in North Carolina.

Lisa A. McLaughlin

Background

Lisa began her career in 1989 working full time with John D. Adams, CPA. She became a member of John D. Adams & Company, CPAs, PLLC in 1996. Lisa has over 22 years of accounting experience. She has experience with tax services, compilations and reviews for small, closely held businesses including corporations and limited liability companies. She also has experience with tax work for trusts and estates.

Education

Lisa is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. She graduated with a Master of Science in Accounting from Appalachian State University in 1990.

Lisa also completed the AICPA National Tax Education Program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1997. In 1998, she received an AICPA Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning & Advising for Closely Held Businesses. She is also a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning issued by The National Institute for Excellence in Professional Education, LLC.
